Jays win as Seattle concede 12th straight
Blue Jays have extended their winning streak to three successes when they beat Seattle 7-5 yesterday at the Rogers Centre where the visitors conceded their 12th straight loss.
The first four innings went scoreless for both sides in what seemed to be a tight game, while Seattle took the first lead in the next one through Figgins. But Toronto broke back immediately through Encarnacion who evened the situation after McCoy doubled to left, in what was the trigger of a five-point midway rally. Bautista doubled to left, allowing Thames to bring the first advantage for the hosts in the sixth round. Things got much worse for the Mariners who would concede three more points without scoring any.
Escpbar singled to center as Patterson made it 3-1 in the seventh inning. Thames then walked as the scoreboard showed 4-1 after Arencibia’s first point of the night. finally, the inning ended with another precious point scored by McCoy from Bautista’s sacrifice fly. Even so, Seattle managed to power through to a four-point trot set in the eighth term. Olivo fired a 419-foot homerun, while Suzuki, Ryan and Kennedy threatened with a late comeback.
Unfortunately, Seattle were unable to score one more point in what could have brought them the first win in 13 games, allowing Toronto to score one more time through McCoy and Escobar who gave their side a late victory in Toronto, their 24th at home where they have gone .500 this season.
Said an exasperated Ryan who has already started to feel embarrassed by his side’s poor run. “I don’t want to say it’s embarrassing, but I don’t even know how many in a row it is now. This is ridiculous.” Wedge, too, looked upset after the game who calls for more solidarity: “We’ve got to get tougher. This game will eat you up if you don’t get tougher. They fought back today, but we’ve got to do a better job from inning to inning,” he said.

Mers’ first reply came in the fourth term through Reyes who cut the deficit to one point after Turner grounded out to shortstop, but the point could only trigger Louis’s three-point run set in the fifth inning. Punto grounded into fiedler’s choice to first as Descalso made it 3-1 also thanks to a throwing error from baseman Duda. Things got much worse for the Mets when Westbrook and Punto put their side four points ahead just minutes later to suggest a clear win.
The next two innings went scoreless for both sides, while the eighth one brought the Mets a last consolation point brought by Duda who made it 2-5 after Pridie singled to center.
