Hamid Karzai At His Brother's Burian

Two explosion were heard on Wednesday as the governor of Helmand province was heading to the funeral of Ahmed Wali Karzai, half-brother to the president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai.
Ahmed Wali Karzai, a very controversial person in his country, known in Afghanistan as “the king of Kandahar,” was killed yesterday at his residence by a bodyguard.
The remotely-detonated mines in Kandahar wounded two soldiers but they did not wound or killed the governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal.
Ahmed Wali was buried on Wednesday, with the president of the country and other personalities attending.

Hamid Karzai spoke of the event during a prescheduled conference with French president Nicolas Sarkozy. He said: “My brother Ahmed Wali was killed today,” adding that each Afghan family has suffered in these years of war, and that it was time for the suffering to come to an end.
One of the members of Kandahar council explained for the international media the circumstances of Ahmed Wali’s assassination.
He told CNN that a bodyguard who had been working for him for years and was trustworthy came into the room and asked to speak to him in private.
They went in another room, where the bodyguard shot him dead, after which he was gunned down by the other bodyguards.
The Taliban claimed the assassination of Ahmed Wali, considering it as the highest-profile hit in the last years.
Some consider that his disappearance from the political landscape benefits the Americans too, given that Ahmed Wali was suspected of narcotics trafficking and other crimes of which speak even the famous U.S. diplomatic cables.
