Most Carolina Panthers players took the diplomatic approach this week when asked whether they have a preference as to which NFC playoff team they’ll face in next weekend’s divisional-round game in Charlotte.

“No sir,” quarterback Cam Newton said Friday. “I’ll let the chips fall where they may.”

But with no prompting backup tight end Ed Dickson ranked the Panthers’ possible playoff opponents, putting the sixth-seeded Seattle Seahawks (10-6) at the top of the list.

“I’m preparing myself to play the best teams at their best. I’m putting them in order,” Dickson said. “I’m preparing to play Seattle. I’m preparing to play the Cardinals. I’m preparing to play Adrian Peterson (and) the Vikings. Or (Green Bay quarterback) Aaron Rodgers. There’s no bad teams in all the bunch.”

Not included in Dickson’s list is No. 4 seed Washington (9-7), the NFC East champs who host the fifth-seeded Packers (10-6) on Sunday.

The top-seeded Panthers (15-1) have a bye this weekend before hosting the lowest remaining seed Jan. 17 at Bank of America Stadium.

If Seattle wins at No. 3 seed Minnesota (11-5) on Sunday, where game-time temperatures are expected to hover around zero, the Seahawks will travel to Charlotte for the sixth meeting between the teams in the past four years.

The Panthers could not face the Vikings or Cardinals (13-3) before the NFC Championship Game, which would be held in Charlotte.

Seattle beat the second-seeded Cardinals by 30 points last week in Arizona. The Seahawks’ strong finish to the regular season, combined with their back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, have made them a popular pick as the “team you’d least like to face in the playoffs.”

Dickson, who won a Super Bowl with the 2012 Baltimore Ravens, said he was speaking for himself when ranking the Seahawks ahead of Carolina’s other possible playoff foes.

“Personally I don’t think our team (would) list them like that, but that’s how I list them,” he said. “In strength of experience, in strength of been there before and have the power to create little problems.”
