The 34-year-old covered Love Yourself in the BBC 1Xtra Live Lounge and soon enough #craigdavidisback was trending.
His vocals were backed by acoustic guitar and drums in a performance being compared to his UK garage glory days.
When David recorded vocals for the Artful Dodger track Re-Rewind he became its biggest star.
But after five albums and 21 singles it's fair to say his popularity took a dip. It wasn't helped by the comedian Leigh Francis doing (very funny) impressions of Craig while wearing a big rubber mask on his sketch show Bo' Selecta!
For a while, Craig became a bit of a joke.

However he's since attributed those comments to his PR team and claims he was "totally cool with it".
The singer and comedian reportedly made up at their mutual friend Fearne Cotton's wedding 13 years later.

His mash-up of 2000 single Fill Me In with Justin Bieber's Where are U Now - scroll to 45 minutes in - sent the 1Xtra studio, and everyone listening, into a frenzy in September.
"Congratulations to Craig David for going crazy, and trending, and putting 1Xtra Live Lounge trending, and nearly 700,000 hits already overnight," Nelson said.
"I think that's going to be one of our biggest ever."
