Red bull will have both drivers, including Mark Webber, on the first two positions for the Sunday race when the world champion will chase his ninth title of the season. Vettel came 0,351 seconds faster than his team mate, and spent 14 laps on track.
Jenson Button, who failed to shine during the practices, impressed with a third best time as the Briton came 0,423 seconds slower than the leader. The McLaren driver will have his team mate Lewis Hamilton behind him. Lewis, who has won two titles so far this season, was just 0,003 seconds slower than his compatriot, being expected to aim a podium position, as well.
Former world champion Fernando Alonso will start on fifth position, while his team mate Felipe Massa will be behind him. Mercedes, too, grabbed back to back positions after Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher set the seventh and eighth best times.
Adrian Sutil will start on ninth while his Force India mate Paul Di Resta is to start on tenth. Williams struggled to penetrate the first ten positions but neither of Rubens Barrichello and Pastore Maldonado managed to do so. The first one came 3,151 seconds slower than Vettel, while the latter one set a 3,339 second gap against the German. Sergio Perez will be on 11th as Sauber are expected to earn some points in Singapore.
Sebastien Buemi from Toro Rosso came 14th with a 3,703 second gap, being followed by Bruno Senna who was just 0,028 seconds slower than the Swiss. One of the biggest surprises came from Vitaly Petrov, though, who set the 18th best time after eight laps. So, the Russian might not join the point positions, which could be the eighth scoreless race of the season from him.
Alonso, who currently sits second in the driver standings declared that he gave up the title fight, given Vettel’s 112 point gap against the Spaniard. The former world number one said that the team should switch their focus on next year.
“This year has been too easy for him (Vettel) probably, because now six races before the end of the season he has the chance to win mathematically the championship, so I expect next year much more competition. Unfortunately this year is nearly gone, the championship will be in Red Bull hands,” he said.
Ferrari are third in the standings with 254 points, having McLaren above them with 325 points and the Austrians from Red Bull with 451. Alonso sits second in the driver table with 172 points, 112 behind leader Vettel, while his team mate Felipe Massa lies sixth with 82 points.
