Detroit have cemented their top spot with a seventh straight win after scoring twice as many points as Twins last night at the Comerica Park where the hosts eased past their visitors 8-4.
The Central leaders managed to overcome a four point deficit set in the first term by the Twins who suggested an easy game at Comerica. Kubel singled to right as Plouffe brought the opener with Mauer getting to third. Valencia then tripled to right allowing both Mauer and Kubel to make it three, while Parmelee singled to left for Valencia’s fourth point.
Unfortunately for the visitors, that was the turning point of the meeting as they would not score any point until the end. On the other side, Detroit powered through to an eight point rally which brought them a big win despite an early scare.
Avila hit a 358 foot homerun in the second term permitting Cabrera and Martinez to put their side one point behind the Twins who lost the pace very easily. Betemit tripled to right and Avila evened the situation in the fourth round, term which brought Detroit a couple of more points later.
Santiago fired a 373 foot homer and Betemit made it 6-4 with five innings left. The fifth inning saw Young hit a 419 foot homerun, the victory becoming just a matter of time for the hosts. Fore more safety, Inge hit a sacrifice fly for Avila’s eighth point.
“It felt good, except for the two-hour inning I had out there. I’m switching some things with my hands and trying to be a little quicker, and I felt for the most part, I was… They’re going to score a lot of runs,” Penny said. “If you can keep them somewhat close, you’ve got a chance to win,” said Penny after the game.

Pittsburgh Pirates 4 – 13 Florida Marlins
Florida humiliated Pirates last night at the PNC Park where the hosts were given no chance to break through. On the other side, Florida dominated the game at all facets scoring nine of their 13 points only in the third inning. Infante opened the game with a 383 foot homerun, being followed by Nolasco who doubled the lead in the second term.
Pittsburgh broke back immediately through Doumit who cut the deficit to one point after Ciriaco singled to left. Unfortunately for the home side things would get much worse in the next term. Murphy made it 3-1 in what was the beginning of a long consistent run which would see the visitors score ten points in a row.
Lopez singled to right and Morrison made it 4-1 in right afterwards. Sanchez scored his first point minutes later. Nolasco singled to center as the first baseman scored the fifth one for Florida, with Petersen getting to third and Buck to second.
Furthermore, Bonifacio hit a sacrifice fly to center permitting Petersen to extend the lead to five points. Things got much worse for the Pirates when Infante hit a 383 foot homerun involving both Buck and Nolasco in a 9-1 gap. Morrison then fired a 442 foot homerun with Murphy opening the gap to ten points.
The fourth inning went scoreless for both sides but Marlins’ run ended in the fifth one. Morrison singled to right as Murphy scored the 12th one of the home side, while Buck singled to left for Morrison’s 13th point. That was also the last time Florida scored a point.

Brignac doubled to center as Jaso made it 6-2 in the same sixth round, while Longoria hit a ground rule to left for Brignac’s seventh one. Mets edged Chicago last night at the Citi Field where the hosts overcame a three point deficit and survived a late scare against the stubborn Cubs who threatened with an extra inning at one point. Fortunately for New York, Pridie brought the winner when counted the most, not allowing Cubs to push the game any further.
The two sides kept their sheet clean in the first two innings, the game being a very tight one from the very beginning. Pena hit a 451 foot homerun in the third round allowing Ramirez to double it as just. The fourth round saw LaHair triple to right and Byrd make it 3-0 in what seemed to be deep breath for the visitors.
But their joy would not last but several minutes. Wright grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop in the same term as Turner cut the gap to two points with Duda out at second. Bay then doubled to left permitting Wright to make it 2-3 with Pagan getting to third. Finally, the inning ended with Pagan’s leveler.
Mets’ midway rally was also ended by Reyes who brought them the first minimal lead after Turner doubled to right. The next three innings went blank for both sides, while the ninth one showed Cubs evening the situation through Montanez.
