NATO Said to Prepare Ground Invasion Against Libya, Syria
NATO Troops
Although the NATO coalition acting in Libya has made it clear that no invasion is being taken into account, the first information about a possible ground attack being prepared by the European military powers begin to surface.
A website, DebkaFile, considered by many a Mossad propaganda website, has published a material in which it says that U.S. and NATO are preparing a final ground attack on Libyan dictator Muammar al Qaddafi, to the purpose of either kill him or oust him.
The website, whose political predictions had been confirmed in the past about many sensitive information, gives as a possible time frame for the launching of the attack the next two weeks, during which time the United States, France and the UK will begin the invasion.
The site says that the “coup de grace” against the regime led by Qaddafi is the highest priority and topic of discussion by the great powers, and in their offices in Moscow, London, Brusells, Oslo, the Hague or Washington, DC the plan is being made for French and British troops to land on Libyan soil within two weeks, and for the American forces to follow in the advanced stages of the war.
DebkaFile says that “coup de grace” is synonymous to “death blow,” and appreciates that France spoke of airdropping weapons for the rebels a few weeks ago as an announcement of the invasion.
It is said that initially the invasion had been scheduled for October, but it was accelerated because of the fact that the rebels and the al-Qaeda-affiliated organizations operating in Libya failed to put a swift end to the conflict like it happened in Egypt or Tunisia.
In a report last month the website which analyzes Debka’s assertion was saying that troops had deployed by the United States and that they would arrive to Libya in late October, or at the beginning of November, with a 30,000 U.S. troops on the ground at the time.
Reports in the Pakistani media U.S., French and British special forces have arrived to Libya before February when the no fly zone was established. Al Jazeera showed images of armed Western military officers in Misratah instructing the troops of the rebels.
It is believed that the American president could even face an impeachment, if an attack were launched on Libya, considering that he told the American people that an invasion was “out of the question.”
In April, the European Union announced that a plan had been prepared for the deployment of military operations, but that it needed a UN approval. Such plan would be the riskiest military mission undertook by European Union so far.
If the news conveyed by DebkaFiles were true, then the way to ground war is opened, and is only a matter of time until it begins. There are military consideration that could argue pro or con this undertaking.

NATO Troops on the Ground
On one hand, it seems like a logical way to end a long-prolonged war that could last indefinitely, unless something like this may happen.
On the ground there is a serious fluctuation of power between governmental forces and those of the rebels. Even though they capture some cities and villages, the rebels are being pressed again into defensive by the forces loyal to Qaddafi.
Qaddafi’s son Seif announced last week that there are some discussions between the governmental representatives and the Islamic rebels. Seif said that they had agreed to switch sides, but the leader of the Islamists denied such thing.
On the other hand, the Russian ambassador to NATO Dmitry Rogozin announced, in an interview for Russian newspaper Ria Novosti, that there is a plan for a ground invasion in Syria, and that the noose is tightening around Iran.
Rogozin spoke soon after the president of Russia who said he had warned Bashar Al-Assad that a “sad fate” awaited him, unless he agreed to stop violence and implement reforms.
He said that Libyan campaign had taught NATO that without a ground campaign not even a small army the size of that of Qaddafi can be defeated.
Therefore they prepare an attack on Syria with the long-term goal of establishing a beachhead for future attacks on Iran. He quoted United Nations, which said in a presidential statement on Thursday that the current situation in Syria did not demand a ground intervention yet to mean that the preparations were under way for when they would be demanded.
The Russian ambassador did not give a time frame of these operation in Syria, but added that Yemen may also be targeted by NATO.
If such a plan were under way, it would mean that two fronts would be opened, and since it is unlikely that NATO would carry two wars at the same time, it stands to reason that the attack in Syria will follow after the one in Libya.
