Boston have cemented their top spot in the East after batting Oakland 4-0 yesterday at the Fenway Park where the leaders managed to keep the sheet clean until the end.
Ortiz opened the game with a 362 foot homerun hit in the second term, which also allowed Pedroia to double the lead as just. The third term went scoreless for both sides, while the fourth one saw Saltalamacchia ground out to first and Pedroia make it three with Ortiz getting to third and Lowrie to second.
The fifth term also went clean for the two teams, while Lowrie closed the game with a fourth point, following Saltalamacchia’s double. Boston have thus improved their season record to .617, record which includes 82 wins and 51 defeats, the victory over Athletics being their second in a row, seventh in the past ten games and 42nd on the road.
“We were really fortunate the way it worked out. We won. We used every (relief) pitcher once but Morales and he threw a little bullpen and he’s been used a lot. It worked out really well. Now we can let the guys regroup,” said Boston manager Terry Francona after the game.
Oakland have dropped .451 this season, including 60 wins and 73 losses, the defeat to Red Sox being their second in a row, fifth in the past ten games and 30th at the Fenway.

The tewo terms went scoreless for both sides, but the game was far from being over. Raburn doubled to right allowing Peralta to make three, while Jackson singled to center for Raburn’s 4-0 advantage. But Tigers lost the control right afterwards as Minnesota stunned the leaders with a four point midway run which helped them to tie their opponents.
Hughes and Repko replied with a couple of homers in the fifth inning, while Hughes doubled to right for Valencia and Tosoni’s leveler. Unfortunately, that was the best the hosts could in front of the favorites who broke back immediately.

Toronto were the first to take the lead, though, as Bautista doubled to center in the first term, allowing Thames to score the first point and give his side a little confidence. Bur Rays answered with a couple of points in the fourth inning when Rodriguez hit a ground rule double to left and Logoria and Zobrist overturned the result.
Jays could only level the score through Encarnacion who made it 2-2 after Arencibia hit a ground doubled to left minutes later.
