3,000 Syrians Went Missing Since The Unrest Began
Protest in Syria
News surfaced on Thursday that according to a global campaigning organization a person has been disappearing every hour in Syria and that almost 3,000 people went missing since the unrest broke out against the regime led by Bashar al Assad.
According to activist group Avaaz.org, some 2,918 people have been arrested or abducted by Syrian forces during the last four months by security forces, and nobody knows what became of them.
The organization says that each hour people are being “plucked out” of the crowds by the Syrian brutal security services and no one sees them again.
Avaaz.org called on the international community to do something to protect the people of Syria who are submitted to such atrocities. They also demand the release of those imprisoned and the peaceful transition to democracy.
Syrian activists consider that since the unrest broke out in mid-March 1,600 persons were killed by security forces in their country.
Avaaz says that it identified 1,634 people killed in the security crackdown since March, 26,000 who have been arrested, beaten and tortured, and 12,617 who are still in detention.
Crackdown continued this week with the same brutality, with military opening fire on crowds on Wednesday in the suburbs of the capital Damascus, leaving at least 8 people dead.

On Thursday, 400 security officers were deployed at the entrance in Damascus as people were preparing to bury their dead. Police raided suburbs of Damascus and arrested more than 100 people in one day.
Revolution in Syria began as a peaceful request for more reforms in the country and became more radical as the crackdown on people became more and more violent and the reforms the people demanded were advancing as very slow pace.
Now the situation is so complicated that many people demand nothing less than the ouster of the president Assad, whose family has been ruling the country for 40 years. Assad has always blamed what happens in his country on an international conspiracy directed against his country by the Americans and the Zionism.
European Union has manifested concern over the situation and proposed more sanctions against the regime in Damascus.
Earlier in the day, the terrorist organization al-Qaeda manifested support for the people in the Arab country in hope that it could recuperate something of the lost influence in the Muslim world since the Arab Spring started.
