More than 6,000 bottles of alcohol drink and wine from various brands  and hundreds of litter of traditional South  Sulawesi liquor called Ballo were destroyed after being  confiscated by the Pinrang Regency Civil Police unit. These illegal bottles  were confiscated from a number of shops and café in Pinrang area.
The demolition process was made a ceremony and witnessed by town  officials, religious leaders as well as provincial representatives. The  demolition took place on  Friday at the front yard of the Al Muna mosque.

To reporters the head of Pinrang Civil Police Abdul Rahman Usman said that  preventing the circulation of alcohol in Pinrang region has so far being  done to the maximum, although there are some people who continue to  sell these types of drinks which are considered as one of the primary  causes of crime.
“Almost every day we conduct inspection and sweeping to places  suspected being use as location of distribution and sale of alcohol. And  it is not rare that we get resistance from residents,” he said.
In accordance with local Pinrang regulation number 9 year 2002 on the  prohibition, supervision and circulation control on sale and  consumption of alcoholic  beverages in Pinrang, strong emphasized was put on the  prohibition and circulation of alcohol in the area.
This intensive alcohol raids by Pinrang Civil Police force based on report from  residents who feels uncomfortable and disturbed due to the effects of  the alcohol consumption by some people.
“This demolition is a form of visual accountability to the public and  our government, against the results of alcohol raids operation that we  do. We do this kind of demolition every six months after an evaluation  or if our storage are full,” he explained.
Vice Regent of Pinrang H Andi Kaharuddin Machmud who also witness the  demolition process says that with the intensity of alcohol and Ballo  raids conducted by Pinrang Civil Police force, he expect the circulation  of alcohol in Pinrang can be minimized so that the district that is  also known as the Thousand and One Qur’an is completely free from  alcohol. “There is no tolerance for alcohol drinkers as well as their  merchants” he said.
