6th of December 1992, was the day when the Mabri Mosque in Ayodhya, India, was demolished by the Hindu activists during a riot. This day is now observed as Black Day in the country, and today is the 18th year after its demolition.
Observing the sensitivity of the day several paramilitary forces and police have been deployed in Faizabad and Ayodhya, which are also known as the twin cities of Uttar Pradesh. However, the security has also been tightened in some of the other states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
According to sources, the Maoists in Bhubaneshwar will be observing Black day on Monday. The Maoists have also demanded that the ones who had destroyed the mosque, must be punished severely and that the mosque must be built again.
On 30th September 2010, a landmark judgment was passed by the Allahabad High Court, that the disputed land would be divided in three equal parts which will be given to Hindu Maha Sabha, Sunni Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara.
