Tamil Nadu’s coastal areas. As many as 179 people have been so far killed due to this natural calamity which is giving way to floods and wash outs.
By the 5th of December the death toll had reached 150 while today it stands on an even higher scale of 179 with no relief. To make situations better the CM of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi arranged a meeting today so that help could be provided to the people suffering due to this.
The police control has informed that the deaths in this area are a cause of wall collapses and strikes of lightning because of the flooded conditions.
Therefore it is important that the people stuck in these parts are drawn out of this area and given immediate relief. Chennai which is the state capital of the region is under great pressure as the people are cut out from their daily lives because of the heavy showers.
The meeting kept by the CM addressed issues about the damage that the rain has given way to and the possible help.
The meeting also had S. Malathi the chief secretary of the state. A survey is going on about the conditions and damage in areas of districts like Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Villupuram, Tuticorin, Tirunelvelli, Pudukottai and Ramanathapuram.
After the estimates are presented by senior officers the government will work up to improve the conditions. An amount of Rs.100 crore has been sent out for the purpose of relief.
