Yankees pitch Seattle who concede 17 straight loss
Seattle are six losses from Phillies’ record of 23 straight failures set back in 1961. Yankees beat Mariners 4-1 last night at the Yankee stadium, bringing them the 17th straight defeat, the biggest negative streak of the season.
The hosts managed just one hit, and conceded other four from the former leaders who scored their first three points in a row. Granderson opened the game with a 333-fot homerun fired in the fourth inning, while Swisher doubled the advantage in the next round after Chavez singled to center. The early session ended with Posada’s third point as things were already clear for both sides.
The next two innings went scoreless for both sides, while the eighth one saw Mariners score their consolation through Smoak who cut the deficit to two points after Figgins grounded into fielder’s choice to third. But that could only arouse Yanks’ last one, scored by Teixeira who hit a 365-foo homerun for New York’s 34th win at home.
Said Eric Wedge, who has becoming more disappointed: “We did have a few pitches to hit tonight that we missed. That’s been kind of the story of our season offensively. When you’re facing good pitching like that you may get one good pitch per at-bat, you just can’t miss ‘em.” Seattle lie foot of the table in the West with a .417 record including 43 wins and 60 defeats, the loss to Yanks being their 33rd on the road.
New York, by contrast, are second in the East, 2 gamesback behind leaders Boston Red Sox, with a .604 percentage which features 61 wins and 40 defeats, the victory over Seattle being their third in a row and seventh in the past ten games.
