The Penguins attempted to move up the start time of their 3 p.m. game
Sunday at Consol Energy Center to accommodate Steelers fans, but were
denied by their opponent, the Carolina Hurricanes.
The club requested an earlier start to allow fans the chance to watch
the Steelers AFC divisional playoff game in Denver, which begins at
4:40 p.m. Carolina was not able to accommodate the request, the team
announced Monday afternoon.
The Carolina Panthers have an NFC playoff game at 1:05 p.m, and the
Hurricanes will be wrapping up a stretch of three games in four days.
Instead, the Penguins invited their fans to remain in the stands to
watch the rest of the Steelers game, which will be shown on the video
board.
“We recognized it. We tried. But you can’t always just change the game. It has to work for both teams,” said team spokesman Tom McMillan.
A Hurricanes representative was not available for comment.
