NASCAR MEXICO Ended November 27 in Mexico City
As every year, the season for NASCAR Corona Series in Mexico took place this last weekend of November. In its 2011 edition, the Mexican edition of this championship of car races, which started in 2007, had its closure in Mexico City this past Sunday, November 27.The site chosen for this 14th and final round of this year’s championship was the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The dispute, which received the name of “Final Mexico 200″ was eagerly awaited in Mexico City. Both in 2009 and 2010, the end of the NASCAR championship on its Mexico edition was held in the city of Aguascalientes.
The week before the one leading to the final, a press conference was organize to present this race in Mexico City, where they talked about the importance of this end of the season and presented some of the participating pilots: : Pepe Montaño, Mike Sánchez, Oscar “El Vampiro” Ruíz and Rodrigo Marbán. The total is 34 competitors, who come from Monterrey, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Chihuahua and Aguascalientes, and also the Federal District.
At the conference, which took place on Thursday the 17th of November at the Museum of Tequila and Mezcal in Plaza Garibaldi, the official announcement of this competitionwas made by the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Alejandro Rojas Díaz Durán. On Saturday, November 19th, all drivers who participated in the press conference were also presented at the Mall Interlomas in Herradura, signing autographs for fans of auto racing.
Accompanied by the aforementioned drivers, and Villalpando Ricardo Ochoa –the Director-General of Strategic Programs, Rojas said at the conference that it is important to make the closure of the NASCAR race in Mexico City, since the public generally responds positively to such events.
At a time when it is trying to promote Mexico City as a safe, friendly and hospitable, the head of government gives “the warmest welcome” to an event like NASCAR, which is part of a major promotional platform, and demonstrates the excellent infrastructure and preparation for world-class events that the city has available.
Running at a speed that generally goes beyond 250 kilometers per hour, the vehicles will run on the AutodromoHermanos Rodriguez, historical building of the Sports City Magdalena Mixhuca, built as an Olympic Park for the 1968’s Olympics.
In the history of the various NASCAR series, name which constitutes an acronym for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, five champions have competed in the AutodromoHermanos Rodriguez. The first one was Carlos Pardo in 2004. The following year, in 2005, he was succeeded George Goeters. The races continued with champion Rogelio Lopez in 2006, Rafael Martinez in 2007 and Antonio Perez in 2008.
In the two years in which the end of the NASCAR Corona took place in Aguascalientes instead of in Mexico City, the champion was Germain Quiroga on both occasions. This time, however, Quiroga did not claim back his trophy, which went to a new leader and winner of the championship: Homero Richards.
Quiroga attended the last instance of the season to complete the triple championship, which is a historical fact in this category. However, his efforts are now focused in the United States, where hewill soon migrate to pursue his career in the American NASCAR national series.
We hope to hear more of Richards in future tournaments.
