Despite having defended the world champion title, Sebastian Vettel seems to be hungry for more after the German has clinched yet another trophy this time in South Korea where the German got the first place for the tenth time this season.
Vettel came home at one hour 38 minutes and 1,994 seconds, being 12,019 faster than his main follower Lewis Hamilton who started the race on pole position. Mark Webber claimed yet another podium place, coming third with a 12,477 second gap against his Red Bull team mate. Apart from Vettel’s success, the Austrian team has also won the constructions’ title for the second straight time.
Jenson Button, who had impressed during the qualifying, failed to take advantage of the third position, coming fourth, 14,694 seconds slower than Vettel. Ferrari picked back to back places with Fernando Alonso clinching the sixth position with a 15,689 second gap and Felipe Massa coming on sixth, 25,133 seconds behind the leader.
Toro Rosso impressed with a seventh position grabbed by Jaime Alguersuari who was followed by Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg who was the last driver to come under a minute. Sebastien Buemi was one minute and 2,762 seconds slower than Vettel, while both Force India drivers Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil was tenth and 11th respectively.
Finally, Rubens Barrichello picked the 12th position, being the last one to finish the 55 laps. Eight other drivers were one lap behind the winner, including Heikki Kovalainen, Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez. Vitantino Liuzzi of Hispania team completed 52 laps out of 55, while Pastore Maldonado, Vitaly Petrov and Michael Schumacher did not finish the race with the last two crashing dangerously after 15 laps.
Said Vettel, who has thus propelled his side top of the team table for the second straight time: “I think it is good to see that the whole team keeps on pushing. In terms of preparation it was not ideal because most of us were tipsy after Sunday night but we deserved that.”
“But to come here and have a tough Friday and a tough Saturday morning, and to come back in qualifying and in the race was fantastic,” he added. The German has gathered 349 points so far this season but he might be still counting. Jenson Button is second in the driver table with 222 points, being followed by Fernando Alonso with 212 points and Mark Webber, who grabbed his sixth third place this season, is fourth with 209 points.
Concerning the team rankings, Red Bull is leader with 558 points, having McLaren 140 points behind the Austrians. Ferrari is very close to losing the second position as the Italians are third with 310 points. Mercedes, who won four points in South Korea is fourth with 127 points, being followed by Renault with 72 points.
