Phillies have picked their 100th win of the season after overcoming a two point deficit against Atlanta Braves whom the leaders defeated 4-2 yesterday at the Turner Field.
Jones opened the meeting with a 427 foot homerun for Braves, while Diaz doubled their lead in the second inning, following Gonzalez’s double. The third round went scoreless for both sides, while the fourth one saw the visitors cut the deficit to one point. Polanco singled to center, allowing Pence to make it 1-2 with Howard getting to third and Victorino to second.
Furthermore, the favorites evened the situation in the fifth round through Rollins who fired a 377 foot homerun when it counted the most. That was also the turning point of the game. From then on Phillies would build their win easily without allowing their opponents to provide any break through. Ibanez singled to right in the sixth term and Victorino brought the first lead for Philadelphia.
The eighth inning saw the same Phillies score one more point through the same couple Ibanez, who singled to center, and Victorino who made it 4-2. Said Jones after the game: “I don’t really care about that. I’ll find out what they did later on tonight or tomorrow. Right now, I’m just trying to flush this one and start focusing on Ron Oswalt.”
