Sinclair escaped his mark only to be denied by Ivanovic whose tackle saved the hosts from an early disaster.
Swansea came in London after a 3-0 win against West Bromwich Albion and were chasing their first win on Stamford Bridge since 1925. Raul Meireles got his first big opportunity in the 14th minute, but the Portuguese’s volley missed the target from 20 yards or so in what should have been a difficult test for keeper Vorm.
The 29th minute brought the first goal for Chelsea as Torres converted a superb cross from Mata through the defender’s legs and into the right hand far post. Mata was the first Blues player to pick a yellow following a foul on Rangel. Ramires made it 2-0 in the 36th minute after a three pass action which involved Torres, Ashley Cole and the Brazilian who beat the keeper with a low shot form inside the box.

The 60th minute saw both teams make a change as Swansea introduced Danny Graham for Leroy Lita, while Mata departed for Florent Malouda.
Anelka the tried his luck with a ranger shot following a personal action which saw the French surrounded by three players, only to hit the bar from 30 yards or so. Chelsea had the game in their hands despite playing in ten men. With 20 minutes left coach Rodgers introduced Stephen Dobbie for Nathan Dyer.
Monk, too, picked a yellow card in the 75th minute for a tough challenge on the same Anelka. Ramires completed his double in the 77th minute following a great action directed by Bosingwa who picked the free Brazilian inside the box for a superb finish past Vorm. Villas Boas then introduced Didier Drogba for Anelka in what would prove to be a very inspired move.
Josh McEachran also was introduced by the Portuguese manager who called Raul Meireles on the bench with eight minutes in the game. Swansea cut the deficit in the 86th minute through Williams who beat Petr Cech with a superb header following a poor defending from the Blues who left the defender unmarked.
But Chelsea were given the clear win one minute before the final whistle when Drogba crowned his first appearance with a tremendous finish through his mark’s legs. Flroent Malouda beat his marks on the left to pick the Ivorian the edge of the box from where he hit it into the right hand far post past blinded Vorm.
Said Drogba after the win: “I was really happy to be back on the pitch with my friends, with my people as I always call them, and the way the fans were supporting me was fantastic. I expected to come on and play on Wednesday but it was perfect to come on and score in this game, but I want to look at the team’s performance.”
