"Landep News"
Tensions started to rise this Sunday when President Obama attempted to make one final push in order to get a final decision regarding the deficit reduction from both sides.
Fox News stated that discussions are still on, despite the fact that John Boehner, House speaker shattered the optimistic mood regarding the negotiations. Boehner claimed that the White House didn’t seem to place much pressure on entitlement programs, but placed a whole lot of it on tax hikes. He also said that a 4 trillion dollars package is much too hard to handle at the moment and that he should reduce the deal to half, at least for the next decade. Would that be better?
Afterwards, Mitch McConnell addressed on Fox News Sunday and stated that the 4 trillion dollar package is no longer an option to be considered. He also stated that such a big package would automatically mean big taxes in the middle of an economic crisis.
Earlier this week, Democrats have been discussing with the White House, about the White House’s ability to deal with the GOP in order to get that entitlement reform. Yet, after Boehner’s statement they went back on pushing against Republicans that want to prevent tax hiking. Why can’t they do a bit of both ?
A senior Democratic congressman said that all the republicans want to do is eliminate entitlement programs such as Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, and stick to protecting “the rich”.
On the other hand republican Xavier Becerra stated that there can be no deal if there are no shared sacrifices on both fronts. This is the closest thing to a deal they got so far.
The fact that Democrats still hammered Republicans that want entitlement programs to be caught, and Republicans want to keep the taxes nice and steady, had resulted in another meeting absent a decision.
