Hotel on Easter Island awarded recognition as the best in Latin America
Located in the Pacific Ocean, the Easter Island (or Rapa Nui in Polynesian) is one of the most isolated islands in the world. The Island belongs to Chile, but it is 3765 km west from the capital city of Santiago de Chile, and almost halfway between Chile and the Island of Tahiti. It is one of the world’s sacred sites, recognizable for a line of giant busts, built in stone, which are still nowadays an enigma.
Isolated as it is; the Easter Island makes for the perfect getaway for your vacations. Even more so now, when the U.S. magazine Travel + Leisure chose one of the hotels in Easter Island and awarded it the best hotel in Latin America, as well as one of the 13 most prominent hotels in the world, in its last World’s Best Awards 2011.
Hotel Posada de Mike Rapu is located in the island territory of Chile. It was the first one in all of South America to be certified with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). This certificate was awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, which also got the hotel more points in the mentioned U.S.magazine.
“There’s nothing like watching the sunset from the edge of a volcano while a tattooed guide explains the legend of the Birdman, or have lunch at the Anakena beach enjoying a fresh tartare baked with fresh, recently caught tuna,” explains the publication when describing the experience of staying in Easter Island. At the top of the list appeared Singita Grumeti Reserves, located in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, with 98.44. The top 10 consisted of Tanzanian, South African, Kenyan, Indian, American and Thai hotels.
But this is not the only award for a Chilean hotel. Also recently, the same Travel + Leisure magazine had recognized the boutique hotel Le Rêve, located just minutes from downtown Santiago, as one of the top 50 new hotels in the world.
