The Big 12 Conference Commissioner Dan Beebe has suspended Nebraska linebacker Eric Martin for one game following his helmet-to-helmet hit in the Huskers’ 51-41 win over Oklahoma State on Oct. 23.
The hit occurred during a kick off return in the first quarter and no penalty was assessed during the game.
“Mr. Martin committed a flagrant act of targeting an opponent with the crown of his helmet in violation of NCAA Football Rules,” said Beebe in a statement released by the league. “This dangerous hit is one that we in the football community are trying to remove from the game.”
Martin will miss No. 14 Nebraska’s game against No. 6 Missouri Saturday.
Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference suspended Mississippi State’s Chris Hughes for a helmet-to-helmet hit.
