Palmizana – a small island off the coast of Hvar in the Southern Adriatic

"Landep News"

Everyone sometimes dreams of escaping to a tropical island paradise – to places a million miles away from our workaday lives where we can indulge our every whim. For some, this is no more than an idle daydream, impossible in reality. To others, it’s a perfectly realizable goal thanks to the experience of places such as Palmizana – a small island off the coast of Hvar in the Southern Adriatic. The Venetian Meneghello family first settled the island in the 1700s. Over the years they transformed in into the arcadian paradise it is today – a bohemian Garden of Eden set in 300 hectares of virgin territory complete with an exotic park, private beaches and some of the clearest waters in the world.

In 1999, the resort was refurbished to the highest modern standards. There are 16 different accommodation units to choose from, ranging from bungalows and villas to houses and apartments. Sleeping between two and 10 people, all are distinct from each other, thoughtfully furnished, close to the water’s edge and enjoy stunning views in every direction.

There’s no shortage of activities either. The diving here is excellent – the surrounding waters are clear and teeming with life, coral reefs and ancient shipwrecks. Deep-sea fishing and pheasant shooting provide other options, and sailing, water-skiing and windsurfing can all be easily arranged. Palmizana Resort also boasts an excellent gastronomic restaurant offers cuisine based on locally sourced ingredients. There is aslo an art gallery nearby and botanical garden, created in 1906, has one of the finest collections of exotic plants in Croatia.
