Located in the dynamic business district of Istanbul, Maslak, Proje4L was founded under the name of Istanbul Museum of Contemporary Art. This is a non-profit organisation established by Elgiz Family with a mission to support the development of contemporary art and artists in Turkey. Opened in 2005, Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art is a private collection museum host the Sevda and Can Elgiz Collection consists of works of by influential Turkish and international artists.
Housed inside a glass warehouse, Proje4L has 2000 sq. m of exhibiton space centres that gives hundreds of national and international artists the opportunity to practice and exhibit their artistic creativity. The Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art also holds regular lectures and seminars in its conference space and has two project rooms are available to young Turkish artists to display their talent.
The collection consists of various media and styles including photography, sculpture and painting, allows the viewer to enjoy a comprehensive journey through the major contemporary art movements of the last two decades. The artist list is long but includes the likes of Ömer Uluç, Alaettin Aksoy, Kemal Onsoy, Fahrelnissa Zeid, Abdurrahman Öztoprak, Tracey Emin, Jan Fabre, Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, Sarah Morris, Andy Warhol, Peter Halley, Paul McCarthy and Robert Rauschenberg. Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art is open from 10: 00 – 19 : 00, Wednesday to Friday; from 10 : 00 – 16 : 00 on Saturday; No fee is required.
