The hosts scored their first couple of points early in the first term through Freeman, who fired a 417-foot homerun, and McCann who doubled the lead right afterwards. the next two terms went scoreless for both sides, while the fourth one saw Colorado cut the deficit to one point through Ellis, but that was also their only point of the night.
The fifth inning also went dry as Braves would hit one more time in the sixth for a 3-1 advantage. Heyward doubled to center, allowing McCann to score his first point of the night. Finally, the game ended the same way as it started. Freeman closed out the clash with a 413-foot homer for a 25th home win for Atlanta. Braves have gone .581 this season, but stay second, 4 gamesback behind leaders Phillies, with a 50-36 performance, the win over Rockies being their seventh in the past tem games.
Colorado, by contrast, are third in the West Conference with 41 victories and 44 defeats, the loss to Atlanta being their second in a row and seventh in the past ten games. They are expected for a break through on Tuesday when they meet the same Braves at the same Turner Field.
Texas Rangers 13 – 4 Baltimore Orioles
Texas thwarted Orioles last night at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to remain top spot in the West. Baltimore were the first to take a 2-0 lead early in the second term, but only to be stunned by a ten-point trot right afterwards. Reynolds opened the game with a 413 foot homer, being followed by Guerrero. Texas broke back immediately through Young who cut the deficit to one point after Murphy singled to center.
Torrealba then doubled to center, while the same Murphy evened the situation at two in the same inning. Texas scored their last point of the term through Chavez, who fired a 390-foot homer, and Torrealba who scored his second point immediately. The third inning saw the same Texas go six points ahead. Beltre hit a 386 footer, being followed by Hamilton who made it 6-2. Finally, Chavez doubled to left as Young and Murphy brought a comfortable lead for the hosts.
The fourth round found Beltre making it 9-2 from Young’s triple, while the sixth one brought the leaders a tenth point scored by Kinsler following Hamilton’s sacrifice to right. On the other side, the Orioles could only cut the deficits and witness their own ruining. Hardy thundered a 412-foot homer, but that could only trigger Rangers for more. Murphy doubled to center and Cruz scored his first point in the seventh term, being followed by Murphy who made it 12-3 right afterwards.
Baltimore scored their fourth consolation point in the next round through Reynolds who hit a second homer for an eight-point deficit. Finally, Napoli closed out the game after Cruz singled to center as Texas were celebrating their 25th home win in front of a 43,000 warmly crowd. “Chavez, he’s going to make contact. He caught a curve ball and got us a big double. That’s nice when you put extra guys in and they can supply you with some offense,” said manager Ron Washington.
Texas have gone .523 this season, which includes 45 wins and 41 defeats, the victory over Orioles being their fifth in the past ten games. Baltimore, by contrast, lie foot of the table in the East with a poor .439 record which features 36 wins and 46 losses, the defeat to Rangers being their seventh in the past ten games and 24th on the road.
