Cyclonic Storm “JAL” Updates from imdchennai.gov.in , heavy Rain between Puducherry and Nellore coast

Yesterday’s Deep Depression over Southeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a Cyclonic Storm “JAL” at 1130 hours IST of 05th November 2010 and moved Northwest-wards and further intensified into a severe cyclonic storm at 0530 hours IST of today, the 06th November and lies centred at 0830 hours IST near 10.0 0 N and longitude 85.5 0 E at about 650 km east-southeast of Chennai. The system would intensify further and move in a West-North-Westerly direction and cross North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Nellore coast close to Chennai by 7th November 2010 night.
Northeast monsoon has been vigorous over South Interior Karnataka and active over Interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
      Rainfall occurred at most places over Interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka and at a few places over Coastal Tamil Nadu.      WEATHER FORECAST VALID UNTIL THE MORNING OF 08TH  NOVEMBER  2010:
      Rain or thundershowers would occur at most places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, at many places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka and at a few places over Telangana and North Interior Karnataka.
HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING:
Isolated extremely heavy rain (greater than 25 cms) would occur over Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai districts of Tamil Nadu during next 48 hours and scattered heavy with isolated very heavy rain would also occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka during the same period.
Squally weather warning: Squally weather with wind speed reaching 55 – 65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph would occur along off Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra coast.
Gale wind Warning:
Gale winds speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph would prevail along off North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra coasts commencing from today evening. It may increase upto 120-130 kmph gusting to 140 kmph at the time of landfall.
Tidal wave warning:
Storm surge of about 1-2 metres above the astronomical tide may inundate the low lying coastal areas of Nellore and Prakasam districts of Andhra Pradesh and Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chennai districts of North Tamilnadu at the time of landfall.

      Moderate to rather heavy  rain would occur at most places over all the districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
