Omo Alata Foods, a food/beverage-focused startup has won the She.Leads.Africa Entrepreneur Showcase pitching competition in Lagos on 26 September 2015.
Omo
Alata Foods, alongside Heels in the Kitchen, Beauty Rev NG, Kamokini,
Heat Free Hair Movement and InstaHealth pitched to an international and
local array of judges consisting of Mo Abudu, Issam Darwish, Eme Essien,
Omobola Johnson, Tunde Folawiyo, Genevieve Sangudi and others for a
chance to claim the top prize.
Omo
Alata Foods walks away with top prize of US$10,000 and up to US$50,000
in investments while Kamokini and Heat Free Hair Movement take home
US$5,000 and US$1,000 respectively for placing second and third.
Aside
winning the top prize, Omo Alata Foods, which intends using the funds
to purchase machinery needed to increase its capacity and further its
expansion plans, will receive mentorship, tech prizes from Etisalat
Nigeria and 3-month of support from Zippy Logistics.
The
OmoAlata, also known as McPeppers, brand is a local Nigerian food
manufacturing brand focused on the sale of processed indigenous peppers,
soups and spices, and intends to use its brand to position an
international product range that will be available to Nigerian and
foreign customers in stores all over the world.
Omo
Alata Foods currently have a NAFDAC-approved product, OmoAlata Pepper
Mix – a smooth blend of fresh tomatoes, peppers and onions with no
preservatives or additives which have been parboiled to preserve it and
cut down cooking time.
The
Entrepreneur Showcase pitching competition was part of the Motherland
Mogul Week which included SheHive, She.Leads.Africa Bootcamp and a
welcome reception and is the brainchild of She.Leads.Africa,
female-focused African social enterprise.
