Moganshan Travel Guide
Spending
some time in Shanghai? Do you feel like taking a break and enjoying a
good weekend getaway? What follows is a travel guide for Moganshan, a
region which might interest you.
Getting to Moganshan
From Shanghai to Hangzhou you can take a train, with a total duration
of 45 minutes. From there you can pre-arrange a pick-up by a private
vehicle to take you to Moganshan. This can be coordinated with the hotel
of your choice for accommodation in Moganshan, or with your hotel in
Shanghai. Also from Hangzhou can take a taxi or a bus to Moganshan.
Another option is to rent a car in Shanghai and drive from there,
without making combinations of transport to your hotel in Moganshan,
which will take you about two hours and a half.
The third option is to take the direct bus from Shanghai to
Moganshan, which takes about four hours to make the journey and leaves
from the Old North Bus Station of Shanghai with a frequency of three
buses in the morning, every day. Call in advance to check times and
schedules, however, to avoid disappointment.
When is the best time to visit Moganshan?
A visit to Moganshan is a true getaway from Shanghai. Moganshan is a
stylish retreat, and it is pleasant at all times of the year. During the
winter, Moganshan looks like a serene and snowy sanctuary; in the
summer it is more scenic.
Where to stay in Moganshan?
Naked Stables offers double rooms from 408 dollars. For more budget
travel, this same company also runs the Naked Home Village, which offers
accommodation in renovated farm houses in the bamboo-covered slopes of
the small historic town center, home to fewer than 20 local people. The
Naked Home Village is composed of rustic bungalows with facades in a
“Lincoln Log” style (children construction game, like Lego, but that
resembles tree logs) and simple interiors with wooden beams. The
bungalows are offered from $ 82. Both Naked Naked Home Village and Naked
Stables accept reservations by calling 86-21-6431-8901.
Another stylish option for a weekend getaway from Shanghai is the
Hotel Le Passage Mohkan Shan, constructed in the style of a French
country house, made almost entirely of recycled materials and which has a
garden with 12,000 rose bushes. In this hotel, the room will cost you $
313, but including all the meals. Reservations are made by phone
calling 86-21-6466-5078.
Where to eat in Moganshan?
A good option is the Moganshan Lodge, a quaint restaurant with a Wild
West style including wooden shutters and a tin roof. There you can try
different dishes prepared with local delicacies, such as house smoked
bacon and roasted local farmed chicken. The Moganshan Lodge offers a
three course menu for a fixed price of U.S. $ 22 and accepts bookings at
86-572-803-3011.
You can also eat at the hotels mentioned; Naked Stables and Le
Passage. Both hotels have a very good culinary offer of dishes prepared
in the house. A third option is to venture into one of the few small
restaurants in the town center and try specialties like bamboo shots,
wild boar and braised pork belly.
What to do in Moganshan?
Going for walks, hiking or star gazingare the most popular activities
in Moganshan. In turn, the resorts such as Le Passage or Naked Stables,
among others, offer a wide range of activities: harvesting tea, cycling
trips, archery, boating, fishing, calligraphy, yoga, boating, kite
flying or bamboo-shoot hunting.
History lovers can also visit a bleached room containing an iron bed
in which Mao Zedong took a nap in the past, now known as the Mao Museum.
This museum, however, has no contact phone number, so you have to go
there to get more information. Another option is the historic White
Cloud Castle, where the political powerhouses Zhou Enlai and Chiang
Kai-shek conspired against the Japanese. More information about the
Castle can be obtained by calling 86-572-803-3382.
