A bomb exploded on Wednesday in Delhi, Indian, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 65. The bomb was placed at the entrance of the high court of Delhi, where people were lined up to get visitors’ passes for the court’s complex.
The explosion occurred at 10.45 local time and is considered the largest attack in India’s capital since the explosion in a market place three years ago that killed 25. Wednesday was a very busy day in court, with a lot of people resolving their differences.
The Indian home secretary said that the crater left by the bomb shows it was one of high intensity, that the ministry he is running had no previous intelligence on the attack and that the signature of a terrorist group is all over this action. The police on the other hand deems the bomb as of medium size.
It is not for the first time that the Delhi’s high court comes under attack this year. On May 25, a bomb went off at around the same location outside the main gate of the court. The blast was minor and no injures were reported.
No one claimed responsibility for the bombing, just like in May, prompting the Indian PM, who visited the place, to say it was a cowardly attack that would receive a serious response from Indian authorities.
Experts are troubled by the modus operandi of the terrorists, who now target the most important cities of India, Delhi, the political capital, and Mumbai, the economic hub, also scene of such attack in July.
They also see that the attackers have a high knowledge of the places they hit, and avoided communication by means of internet or phone.
The attacks in the past were blamed on Pakistani terrorist groups, or were claimed by them, but now India and Pakistan are thawing their frozen relations, and are engaged in discussions that are expected to bring the countries closer.
A Pakistani human rights activist who is going to go on hunger strike, following the model of Anna Hazare, who protested corruption in India, even advanced the idea of deep relations between the two countries that would erase the injures in the past and would make the borders very thin.
