In a recent publication of the London magazine Frontier, its 27th edition of the contest Frontier Awards chose the Carrasco International Airport serving Montevideo, de Uruguayan capital, as one of the best four airports in the world.
Inaugurated in late 2009, the Aeropuerto Internacional de Carrasco, as it is called in Spanish, is a state-of-the-art construction designed by the Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly. With a surface of 45,000 square meters, this airport can be used by 4,5 million passengers every year.
The Carrasco Airport has eight doors for simultaneous use for fixed and remote boarding, four telescopic boarding corridors, 44 check-in desks, 24 migration desks and 1,200 parking spots. Its total cost was 165 million dollars.
Competing for Best Airport Operator of the Year were also other bigger airports with a greater flow of flights and budgets. Nevertheless, after evaluating and pondering relevant information about the commercial management, infrastructure and services of airports all over the world, the Carrasco International Airport was chosen together with the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (United Arab Emirates), the Copenhagen Airport (Denmark) and the Heathrow Airport (England).
According to the jury of the Frontier Awards, Carrasco stood out “due to its operative excellence and its first level services in a world scale”.
If you are planning to travel to Uruguay, you have one more excuse to take a trip to Montevideo now: get to know one of the four best airports in the world!
