FC Barcelona a breathtaking 8-0 win over Osasuna last night at the Camp Nou where Fabregas and Xabi also scored one goal apiece and Roversio put it into the own goal minutes before the half time.
Osasuna were the first to put Valdez under pressure through Martinez whose lob reached the roof just three minutes into the game. But a couple of minutes later things started to become complicated for Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side who conceded an early goal from Messi. Dani Alves was picked on the right with a high cross the Brazilian headed straight at the Argentine who put it home from close range.
Fabregas doubled the lead in the 13th minute with a tremendous volley from ten yards or so, following a one two play with Messi who picked the newly arrived with a high ball on the edge of the box. Keeper Fernandez blocked the same Fabregas in the 25th minute after a superb action developed by Xabi. Messi failed to convert the follow up, as well, but a third goal was just a matter of time for the Spanish champions.
Abidal hit the bar just one minute later. Messi picked the defender in good position but the finish should have been a better one from the French. Messi imitated his team mate five minutes later. The Argentine was played with a perfect diagonal cross by Xabi but Messi hit the post from a free area.
David Villa made it three in the 34th minute following a tremendous through ball from Abidal who picked the striker inside the box only to beat Fernandez with a superb finish. Things went from bad to worse for Osasuna who conceded yet another goal just three minutes later following a poor defending which saw Roversio score into the own goal. David Villa’s shot was deflected home by the central defender as the visitors could only witness their own ruining.
Messi completed his double four minutes before the half time after a three pass combinative plat which involved Xabi, Fabregas and Messi. Fabregas was perfectly played inside the box where the turned his mark before feeding free Messi who put it home with ease. The half time went 5-0 as Osasuna were only expecting the final whistle.
Seven minutes into the second part Messi hit the bar for the second time, but Fernandez could not stop Xabi one minute later. Messi fed the midfielder with a superb lob which the playmaker converted into a sixth one with a looping shot over the exited keeper. David Villa completed his double in the 76th minute following an individual exquisite from Fabregas who beat three marks as well as the keeper before feeding free Villa in front of the empty goal.
Messi made it 8-0 a couple of minutes later. The Argentine slalomed between two marks and played a one two with Villa, the finish being converted home after a tricky move by the Ballon d’Or. Said Guardila of their opponents: “They are a team I know well and I have a lot of admiration for their coach. There aren’t many teams in the middle of the table who would be brave enough to come along and look to take us on. I like coaches like that and I’ve learnt a lot from them.”
