Fabregas and Samir Nasri to FC Barcelona and Manchester City, respectively, according to the English club who declared they are to accept a deal for the two players who are likely to part with the Gunners this month.
The Catalans are believed to have made a 30 million pound bid for their former player who is likely to pay his current side more than four million in order to facilitate his move back to the Camp Nou. Fabregas has been a target for the European champions since 2010. Last year the Spaniards were denied a first bid for Cesc, while a second one was also rejected last month, something which forced Barca to improve their offer to a reported 40 million pound amount.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who would not let Fabregas leave the Emirates, is now in big difficulty as the French is to handle the situation without two of his best players. Said the coach: “If you give that message out, you cannot pretend you are a big club, because a big club first of all holds onto its big players and gives a message out to all the other big clubs that they just cannot come in and take away from you,”.
Apart from Fabregas, Nasri’s name also is on the departing list with the main destination Manchester City. The French expressed his desire to part with the Gunners earlier this summer, the lack of success having made him consider a move away from London. He has scored 18 goals and gathered 85 selections with the former champions with whom he has not won a big trophy.
Nasir is thus likely to become the second Arsenal player to join City after Gael Clichy. The defender signed a four year deal with Roberto Mancini’s side last month. Arshavin is convinced that the team will face some hard times if Nasri and Cesc leave this summer. “The loss of any one of them would be enormous, and we naturally want to see Cesc and Samir play with us in the future – but if the player wants to leave the club,” said the Russian who is expected to become one of the new leaders on the Emirates.
Arsenal finished the season fourth in the standings, having failed to secure a UEFA Champions League group stage spot. They will meet Udinese next week in the qualifying round. Wenger’s side will start the new season away at Newcastle United on Saturday and will first test their new look on August 20 against Liverpool.
