National League beat the All-Star American team 5-1 last night at the Chase Field where they managed to overcome a minimal deficit set in the fourth term by the ALS, to go two points ahead within minutes.
Gonzalez brought the first and only lead for the ALS with a 403-foot homer, but National broke back immediately through Fiedler who also fired a 410 footer in the same term. Beltran and Kemp then followed him with a couple of precious points for a comprehensive 3-1 lead they wouldn’t let go of until the end. Even more than that, the National League went three points ahead in the next inning thanks to Weeks who made it 4-1 after Ethier singled to right.
The sixth round went scoreless for both sides, while the seventh one saw the same NLS draw the clear victory and Pence make it 5-1. Finally, the last two terms went dry as NLS grabbed their first win over the American starts at the Phoenix indoors. Said Brian Wilson: “It felt like a little bit like last year when you come into a pressure situation and you try to do a clutch performance as you can.”
Heath Bell also had a solid contribution in last night’s All-Star Game win, claiming that “I told some guys I wanted to have fun this All-Star Game and needed some ideas, so guys back home kind of said slide on the mound.”
MLB resumes on Thursday with the following games:
San Diego Padres – San Francisco Giants
Seattle Mariners – Texas Rangers
Minnesota Twins – Kansas City Royals
Colorado Rockies – Milwaukee Brewers
Cleveland Indians – Baltimore Orioles
Chicago Cubs – Florida Marlins
Toronto Blue Jays – New York Yankees
