Colorado crash Houston in 22-point show
Colorado Rockies have started to build streak after thwarting Houston Astros 19-3 on Sunday at the Minute Maid Park where the visitors picked one of their biggest wins of the season.
The first inning went blank for both sides, but the second one saw Colorado start a five point run. Iannetta grounded into fielder’s choice allowing Pacheco to score the fist point in the second round. Wigginton doubled the lead right afterwards, following Field’s singling. Ellis then hit a sacrifice fly to left as Field made it three.
The third inning brought Colorado a couple of more points, something which allowed them to draw a very clear win in Houston. Field singled to center and Pacheco extended the lead to four points with Iannetta getting to second. Finally, Iannetta made it 5-0 as Astros’ first reply was about the come.
Altuve singled to center, allowing Schafer to cut the deficit to four points with Altuve getting to third on error committed by fielder Young Jr. On the other side, Colorado were getting ready for yet another consistent rally which would bring them 14 points in succession. Pacheco singled to left and Smith made it 6-1 with Kouzmanoff getting to second.
Even more than that, Wigginton doubled to left allowing Kouzmanoff score his first point with Pacheco getting to third. Wigginton scored his first one right afterwards, following Field’s singling, while Young Jr. scored the only point of the fifth term, following Kouzmanoff’s sacrifice fly.
As if they had not scored enough, Milwood and Field came up with a double in the sixth term, while another one was provided by Kouzmanoff and Smith in the seventh round. Wigginton made it 14-1 in the same inning after Iannetta hit a sacrifice fly to left.
Kouzmanoiff, who hit a 345 foot homerun, and Ellis made it 16-1 as the victory became just a matter of time for the visitors. Colorado finished their rally with a triple point provided by Iannetta, who hit a 395 foot homerun, Pacheco and Wigginton.
Houston could only score a couple of consolation points in the ninth term. Johnson singled to left as Lee scored the second one with Bogusevic getting to second, while the same Bogusevic had the last word, making it 3-19 after Shuck singled to center.
Said Rockeis manager Jim Tracy: “I wouldn’t have thought, with no disrespect meant, that it would have been done with the patched up lineup that we have. But we swung the bats today. We executed with runners at third.”
On the other side, Houston’s manager Brad Mills looked very disappointed with the big defeat, claiming that “we tried to stop the dike, and we couldn’t do it. It got away and we tried to come back, but we kept getting behind in the count and giving up chances to swing the bat a little bit. Something like this is never fun.”
Detroit Tigers 10 – 6 Baltimore Orioles
Detroit picked a clear win on Sunday at the Comerica Park where the hosts rallied past sleeping Orioles very easily. Cabrera, who hit a 392 foot homerun, and Young scored the first double of the game right in the opening term, putting the hosts into a reasonable lead. The second inning went scoreless for both teams, but the game was far from being a tight one.
Young reached on infield single to shortstop, allowing Inge to score the third one for Detroit with Ordonez getting to second. The fourth round also went blank as Orioles were still chasing their break through. Fox and Reimold cut the deficit to one point in the fifth term after Florimon doubled to center.
The same Florimon leveled the score right afterwards but Baltimore were still unable to go ahead of their opponents. An impressive run brought Detroit a six point lead in the fifth and sixth terms. The hosts came up with a couple of triples, something which helped them to stay in touch with the clear victory.
At first, Martinez hit a 401 foot homerun, involving both Jackson and Cabrera, and then Kelly hit a 360 foot homerun with Peralta and Raburn making it 9-3. The seventh round saw both sides keep the clean sheet and Tigers head towards the comprehensive result. Orioles also scored three points through Reimold, who hit a 452 foot homerun, Andino and Fox.
