Redknapp keen to bring Adebayor at Tottenham
Emmanuel Adebayor could join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to the Spurs manager Harry Redknapp who revealed that he is interested in the 27-year-old’s services and is keen to bring the Togolese striker on the White Hart Lane.
Adebayor is still a Manchester City player but Roberto Mancini is willing to sell the player either to Real Madrid, with which the player split at the end of this season, or Tottenham, though neither of the two sides have made any clear offer towards the Eastlands side. The forwarder, who scored eight goals for Jose Mourinho’s side, expressed his desire not to part with the Spaniards with whom he won the Copa del Rey.
Harry Redknapp, who managed to keep Peter Crouch and Gareth Bale on the White Hart Lane, despite all the interests from bigger sides, is likely to bring the Togolese in London, as well, although the player looked desperate not to return to Premier League a month ago. Adebayor scored six goals past Tottenham while being an Arsenal player, but still, a return even to London is – at least for the moment – unlikely.
Said Redknapp: “I spoke to the chairman about loaning the player and if we could work out a deal for him, I would like to bring him to the club. The chairman, Daniel Levy, has been speaking about it, I am not sure if it will happen. He is a name that has certainly been mentioned, certainly.” Spurs are currently in South Africa for the summer pre-season, having Luka Modric on their side, as well. The Czech, who captained Tottenham these days in Africa, is set to stay with the White Hart Lane despite all the rumors which had seen him a Chelsea player.
Redknapp revealed at the same time that is keen to bring West Ham midfielder Scott Parker, but the club doesn’t afford the money the Hammers ask for their cornerstone. Spurs manager said that the player is worth eight million pounds, but the price could reach 30 million with all the fees and wages included.
Torttenham, who finished the season fifth, position which sends them through the Europa League competition, are now vying Jose Mourinho’s side for Adebayor move. Real’s remarkable results must have also influenced the Togolese’s desire not to break up with the Bernabeu side whom he helped to finish the season second.
Real Madrid have made five transfers this summer, but the Special One is still hungry for at least two more strikers which regard Santos’s revelation Neymar and the same Adebayor. Unfortunately for Mourinho, the Brazilians pointed clearly the player won’t make the move abroad until the winter as his current club is keen to keep him for the FIFA Club World Cup competition which gathers the best sides in the world.
Real are vying FC Barcelona and Chelsea for Neymar, but they still remain the main candidates for the youngster who expressed his wish to join the Special One’s side in the future. As for the Catalans, the European champions are also interested in Brazilian’s services, though the club said they don’t afford the proper amount this summer, a potential bid could be set next year. Madrid, by contrast, are willing to bring the money whenever the Brazilians want, but this could also take a while as Santos said they will keep the striker for sixth more months in Brazil.
Chelsea is also among the Neymar’s wishlist, though the player declared at one point he wouldn’t join a Premier League side due to the English weather. Santos revealed that five big giants, including Manchester City, Real, Chelsea, FC Barcelona and Anzhi are willing to pay more than $60 million for Neymar, but the club haven’t come to a clear agreement with any of the five European clubs.
Neymar impressed the European clubs with a remarkable season made in Brazil last term, the 19-year-old having socred 27 goals for Santos with which he gathered 64 appearances. His international career is also an impressive one as Neymar has scored five goals in nine games with Brazil which he join last year.
