Hotel on Easter Island awarded recognition as the best in Latin America

If you would like to visit the best hotel in Latin America you should not look for it in the mainland. According to the Travel + Leisure magazine from the United States, you will find it in the Easter Island.
Located in the Pacific Ocean, the Easter Island (or Rapa Nui in Polynesian) is one of the most isolated islands in the world. The Island belongs to Chile, but it is 3765 km west from the capital city of Santiago de Chile, and almost halfway between Chile and the Island of Tahiti. It is one of the world’s sacred sites, recognizable for a line of giant busts, built in stone, which are still nowadays an enigma.
Isolated as it is; the Easter Island makes for the perfect getaway for your vacations. Even more so now, when the U.S. magazine Travel + Leisure chose one of the hotels in Easter Island and awarded it the best hotel in Latin America, as well as one of the 13 most prominent hotels in the world, in its last World’s Best Awards 2011.
Meet Hotel Posada de Mike Rapu, part of the Explora chain of hotels in the Easter Island. A wood and stone building helps the Posada mimic the natural environment and mingle perfectly with it. This hotel “offers adventure lovers the chance to hike around the volcanoes, practice scuba diving among the reefs, and visit the famous moái statues, in all cases accompanied by multilingual guides.”
Hotel Posada de Mike Rapu is located in the island territory of Chile. It was the first one in all of South America to be certified with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). This certificate was awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, which also got the hotel more points in the mentioned U.S.magazine.
“There’s nothing like watching the sunset from the edge of a volcano while a tattooed guide explains the legend of the Birdman, or have lunch at the Anakena beach enjoying a fresh tartare baked with fresh, recently caught tuna,” explains the publication when describing the experience of staying in Easter Island.
After evaluating aspects such as rooms, facilities, location, service, dining and rates, Travel + Leisure granted the Posada de Mike Rapu a score of 95.47, which compares favorably with the 95.20 of its predecessor, the Four Seasons Resort Carmelo (Uruguay) or with the 93.22 received by the One & Only Palmilla, the best hotel in Mexico.
At the top of the list appeared Singita Grumeti Reserves, located in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, with 98.44. The top 10 consisted of Tanzanian, South African, Kenyan, Indian, American and Thai hotels.
But this is not the only award for a Chilean hotel. Also recently, the same Travel + Leisure magazine had recognized the boutique hotel Le Rêve, located just minutes from downtown Santiago, as one of the top 50 new hotels in the world.
