Oakland concede tenth staight loss
Athletics have worsened their losing streak to ten defeats when they were knocked by Chicago White Sox 4-9 last night at the US Cellular Field to remain bottom in the West.
Oakland took the first lead in the second inning, only to be crashed by a six-point rally from the White Sox who were chasing their 31st win of the season. Suzuki scored the first point of the meeting after Rosales singled to center, while Matsui got to second. But within the same second inning things got pretty bad for the visitors as they allowed the Sox to build a two-point advantage.
Vizquel sacrificed to right, allowing Pierzynski to level the score just minutes later. Rios followed him right afterwards after Pierre walked. Finally, Ramirez reached on infield single with Dunn bringing the first lead of the night for the home side. The third inning brought three more points for Chicago who were drawing the victory with six innings remaining.
Dunn hit a 372-foot homerun, while Pierzynski propelled his side four points ahead. Furthermore, Ramirez walked and Vizquel made it even 5-1. The next three innings went dry for both sides, while Athletics’ second reply came in the seventh through Matsui who homered a 371 footer. Suzuki then cut the deficit to three points, but Chicago were still there struggling for a consistent advantage. Said Dunn: “That felt good. You’re out there after having a series off. You’re eager to get back in there and be able to contribute. We haven’t been clicking on all cylinders all year. Hopefully this will be the start of something cool.” On the other side, Athletics interim Bob Melvin, who had tried to make some changes before the game, failed to hinder his side of a tenth straight disaster. “It would have been nice to go home tonight and get some sleep knowing that we won a game, but we’ll come back out and battle tomorrow,” he said.
