Nationals win as manager Riggleman resigns
Washington were so happy after yesterday’s late win over Seattle that their manager’s leaving was the last thing they could think of at worst. Nationals edged Mariners 1-0 thanks to Espinosa’s nine-inning point as Jim Riggleman resigned after two years.
According to reports, Riggleman’s decision is due to the contract he has agreed on with the franchise, though the manager has spoken ambiguously during the news conference: “It’s been brewing for a while. I know I’m not Casey Stengel, but I do feel like I know what I’m doing. It’s not a situation where I felt like I should continue on such a short lease,” he declared.
