Karthikai Deepam is the festival of lights celebrated in Tamil Nadu.
Karthigai Deepam means festival of lamps, a festival of lights, ushering in prosperity and joy.
In 2010, Karthigai Deepam festival will be celebrated on 21st November 2010.
On this occassion, Maha Karthigai Deepam Festival will be celebrated at the Thiruvannamalai temple and it will be telecast live in local tamil TV channels.
Doordarshan Podhigai (DD1) will live telecast Tiruvannamalai Sri Arunachaleshwarar Karthigai Deepam festival from 4.25 pm on November 21 2010 (Sunday).
Vasanth TV will live telecast Bharani (Barani) Deepam from 3 am or 3.30 am on 21 November morning. The live telecast of Maha Deepam will start from 3.30 pm in the evening.
SVBC TTD TV and Sri Sankara TV might also live telecast the event.tiruvannamalai_karthigai_deepam
The Maha Deepam will be lit at the top of 2668 ft high holy mountain at around 6 pm. 3500 kgs of Ghee will be used to lit the Maha Deepam. Bharani Deepam will be lit in the morning.
The mountain in Tiruvannamalai is worshipped as Shiv Linga. Karthigai Deepam will be celebrated with great splendour by litting traditional lamps in all Lord Muruga and Lord Shiva Temples.
Temples, hill tops and and houses will be decorated with lamps. Special abhishekam, pujas will be held in temples. In many temples Chokapanai will be lit in the evening.
