Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe received a three-year contract extension on Friday..
Beebe’s original contract was set to expire in 2012 but now will be under contract until June 30, 2015.
“Dan Beebe has been an outstanding leader for the Big 12 Conference during very challenging times, including our transition to 10 teams,” said Board of Directors Chairman and University of Missouri chancellor Dr. Brady Deaton in a statement on the conference’s website.  “The board feels that he has performed well beyond his job description under extraordinary conditions.”
Beebe, who was appointed commissioner in 2007, has overseen the conference through some good times and bad. He’s seen eight national championships and five teams make it to the Bowl Championship Series bowl games. He was also instrumental in keeping the league together when it appeared over the summer it would break apart.
With Nebraska and Colorado’s defections to the Big Ten and Pac-10 respectively and talk of teams like Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma possibly bolting to create superconferences, Beebe was able to work a deal to keep the major powers in the Big 12 together.
