She came to him at his lowest point. The voice of an angel, a whisper in the dark. She’s the only thing that gets Nathan Kelly through his captivity, the endless days of torture and the fear that he’ll never return to his family. With her help, he’s able to escape. But he isn’t truly free, because now she’s disappeared and he’s left with an all-consuming emptiness as he struggles to pick up the pieces of his life. Did he imagine his angel? Or is she out there, needing his help as he’d once needed hers?Hezzzzzo, readers. I am back with my promised DNF review of Whispers in the Dark. Consider that your warning that this is not.a.good.review. If you would like to read a review completely different than mine, you can read Tracy's review here. I'm going to read it when I'm done writing mine.
Shea has been on the run from people who will stop at nothing to exploit her unique abilities. She never wanted to drag Nathan, who’d already suffered so much, into danger, but she doesn’t have a choice so she reaches out to him for help. Finally face-to-face after having already formed a soul-deep bond in hell, their emotional connection is even more powerful than their telepathic one. Nathan refuses to consider ever letting her go again, but she worries they can never have a life free of the dangers that dog her every step. He’ll protect her with his every breath, but can he convince her that they are meant to face these threats together?
I'm going to start with a little ass kissing and say I lurve you, Maya Banks.
Ass kissing you ask? Moi? That's my way of saying straight away that I still love this series. I consider this book a bump in the road. It's one of those things that I am going to pretend never happened. Nathan? Nathan who?
Let me get right to it because this isn't going to be an in depth review like Tracy's. I'm simply going to state why I could not finish this book. There were two reasons. I can't say if I could have finished it if there were only one of them. I just can't tell you.
1. Shea is a fucking psychic. No, not psycho. She's telepathic. She also has a sister who has magical powers. She can heal people physically. And Shea can act as a conduit between her sister and an injured person to heal them.
2. Nathan didn't have the Kelly arrogance assiness that comes with, well, being a Kelly. He was too normal. Which is good in real life, but not in a book written by Maya Banks. God knows I tried to finish it, but I just didn't care how it ended. I really didn't. I didn't care what happened to Shea or Nathan.
Throwing a telepath into the series isn't as bad as oh, say, throwing time-travel in. Which is why I can just pretend it never happened. Still, I just don't get it.
