“The second set was pretty equal. I was just a bit more focused at the end to make a break to win the match. I’m happy to be in the quarter-finals. On the other side, Goffin had a 57 first serve percentage, six aces, four double faults, winning just 34 percent of receiving points. Goffin only won 57 points of 127 played, losing the game in nearly one hour and a half.
On the same second half of the draw, Jurgen Melzer, who is seeded fourth in Kuala Lumpur, ousted Rik De Voest, who was following an impressive win over Ryan Sweeting in the opener, in two sets, 6-0, 6-4. The Austrian managed to keep the sheet clean throughout the entire opener which he dominated at all facets and during which he also converted three out of four break points.
The second set saw the same Austrian power through to a two game lead thanks to a break grabbed amid the term, something which helped him to close the clash after two rounds. Melzer won 76 percent of first serve points, 44 of return ones and 76 of service points.

Melzer will next meet Marcos Baghdatis who is still chasing his good old days form. The Cypriot beat Somdev Devvarman in two sets, 7-5, 6-4 to secure the quarter final berth in nearly one hour and a half. The two exchanged three breaks in the opener, two of which being taken by the former top ten player who also conceded a service amid the term.

Devvarman created 12 break points but only converted two of them, something which dragged him down, especially in the first term when he converted just one out of eight chances.
Fifth seed Nikolay Davydenko has made a two set progress into the quarter final when the Russian beat Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 7-6 on Thursday session. Davidenko, whop still lacks a title this year, picked the first set lead thanks to a couple of break conversions which propelled him three games atop despite losing one of his services on the road.
