Vucinic remains in Serie A as the former AS Roma striker signed a four year deal with rivals Juventus who will pay the Montenegrin 3,5 million euro per year. The Old Lady paid AS Roma 15 million euro for the 27-year-old who was not likely to join Manchester United.
Vucinic is to join Andrea Pirlo at Juventus who was also given a three year deal in June. He leaves AS Roma after five unsuccessful years which only brought him an Italian Super Cup and two Cups. The forwarder had scored 46 goals for his former side and gathered 147 appearances, Juventus being his fourth club in career. Vucinic had previously played for Sutjeska Niksic and Lecce, his first six years with the Italian club including 35 goals and 111 selections.
Juventus confirmed player’s move earlier this week through a statement which read: “Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces that the agreement with A.S. Roma S.p.A. for the definitive acquisition of the registration rights of the player Mirko Vucinic has been finalized. The contract envisages the payment by Juventus of 15 million euros in three years. Juventus and the player have signed a four-year contract of employment.”
Apart from his move, the former Italian champions, who have a new coach Antonio Conte, have also given Fabio Quagliarella and Alessandro Matri full time jobs as the Old Lady is looking forward to strengthening their squad for the next season. Conte is expected to lead his former side top in the standings after a long period of drought.
Juventus had also looked interested in former Atletico Madrid revelation and striker Sergio Aguero, but the Argentine split with the Spaniards to become a Manchester City player. Juventus had a poor season, finishing the term seventh with 58 points, five behind a UEFA Europa League position. Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi, who was desired by the Italians, is likely to stay with the Spaniards for yet another season, according to his agent Federico Pastorello.
Vucinic’s is to join Luca Toni, Amauri and captain Alessandro del Piero in Juve’s attack as he was no longer part of Luis Enrique’s future plans at the Olimpico where the Spaniard was given a two year deal. The former Barcelona B coach has already found replacements for Vucinic, bringing Barca’s Bojan Krkic for their attack. They also invested big amounts, bringing Gabriel Heinze of Olympique Marseille as well as Sporting Gijon’s Jose Angel.
Juventus lost instead Mohamed Sissoko who was given a three year deal by the former French champions PSG and are very close to losing Amauri, too as the forward is hunted by Marseille. Juventus will start the new Serie A season away against last term’s revelation Udinese and will make their home debut against Parma.
