Although he avoided the red carpet beforehand, Carrey receive a warm welcome on stage as he presented the award for Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical.
And his routine was on point as always as he poked fun at his introduction describing him as "two-time Golden Globe winner Jim Carrey."

"When I go to sleep at night I'm not just a guy going to sleep. I'm two-time Golden Globe winner Jim Carrey going to get some well-needed shut-eye," he said.
"And when I dream I don't just dream any old dream. No sir," he continued as the crowd roared in approval. "I dream about being three-time Golden Globe-winning actor Jim Carrey, because then I would be enough. It would finally be true and I could stop this terrible search for what I know ultimately won't fulfill me."
Cathriona took her own life in September and the Dumb and Dumber star has avoided the spotlight for the last three months as he grieves for the Tipperary native, whom he dated on and off since 2013.
At the time of her death, the Dumb and Dumber actor released a statement saying: "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona.
"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."
