Tours in Pisa, Florence and Toscana

"Landep News"
There are many guide books for tourism in Italy which underestimate the city of Pisa. Especially in those books covering multiple European countries, is common to find advice not to visit the city of Pisa for more than a little while, and preferably to just get there by opting for connecting low cost flights in its airport and restricting your visit to the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
In some ways it’s true: the Leaning Tower of Pisa, known in Italian as the Torre Pendente di Pisa, together with the complex that surrounds it, constitute the main attractions of this city. Pisa, however, has much more to offer: a typical Italian city with an excellent location in the region of Tuscany, with quaint narrow streets, old buildings, good food and an extensive shopping area.

If you plan to do sightseeing in Pisa during your trip to Italy, we advise you to spend a whole day to this city, staying there overnight. The next day, depending on which are your next destinations in Italy, you can visit another place during the day and sleep in Pisa, or leave the city for good.
Upon arrival, it is best to first visit the Tower of Pisa and its surrounding attractions, such as cathedral, baptistery, the cemetery and the museums in the surrounding Piazza dei Miracoli. Detailed information about how to plan this visit is provided in a different blog entry of Leaning Tower of Pisa and its surroundings.
You can then go through the Botanical Garden, located just south of Piazza dei Miracoli and belonging to the University, which is also the first university botanical garden in Europe.
From there you can go to Piazza deiCavalieri, where you will find several buildings belonging to the Escuola Normale Superiore, University of Pisa. Even when not open to the public, these buildings are impressive for their majesty and their Renaissance style. The most prominent is the Palazzo della Carovana, central building of the University. On the other side of the square is the Palazzo dell’Orologio, or clock palace, where the Conte Ugolino della Gherardesca was kept captive, as explained in the Divine Comedy of Dante. Pisa is, after all, a university town with 60,000 students in a population of 100,000.
On one side of the river Arno, the church Santa Maria della Spina was built to house one of the thorns of the crown of Christ. This is a small Gothic church which enhances all pictures taken of the river banks from the bridge nearby.
On both sides of the River Arno runs Corso Italia, a street that goes across the bridge Ponte Mezzo, or middle bridge. In this street, the city center of Pisa, you can buy excellent Italian fashion products. On both sides, especially on the southern bank of the river, you can find small alleys where you can enjoy Italian food and drink a piacere!
Be captivated by the magic of Pisa, much more than a leaning tower and a simple entrance to the Italian Tuscany. Buon viaggio!
