Café Una located in Architekturzentrum Wien

"Landep News"

Vienna has a long tradition of bars and restaurants with unusual interior designs. Now, we’re presenting you Café Una located in Architekturzentrum Wien – one of Austria’s leading museums for architecture. It is conceived as a centre for exhibitions, events and research into architecture and related topics, particularly the architecture and urban design of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The café’ architecture is military-like, severe, hard, and authoritarian. Even the sky is framed and disciplined in the courtyards. The mosaic ceiling work from Turkish artist Asiye Kolbai-Kafalier, a Turkish artist living in Vienna, provides a suitable contrast to the minimalist architecture elsewhere. Designed by French architect duo Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal, the oriental ceiling tiles create a perfect atmosphere for relaxing after an exhibition visit.

The appropriation of the location by the artists was reactionary, opportunistic, impertinent, invasive, rebellious, easy going, constantly modified, and always changing.
