Research shows that bottlenose dolphins not only seem to be very close to us, human, from a structural point of view, but they may also outrun us, when it comes to healing, in special
Mother Nature has a great way of dealing with things and when things go bad, she finds a way to bring them back to normal.
According to a group of researchers at the Georgetown University Medical Center, it seems that a group of dolphins have the ability of healing. Michael Zasloff said that he studies a great deal of documents which have brought him to think that the bottlenose dolphins have some sort of healing powers. The documents the researcher studied were about a couple of dolphins that had escaped a shark attack and it seems that the wounds the dolphins got healed only in a matter of weeks, without getting infected or without leaving huge scars on the little dolphins. “If I saw this in a human being, I wouldn’t believe it,” Zasloff said. He even went on saying that the bottlenose dolphins had the ability to develop underwater incredibly, without hands or legs. He mentioned that they swim faster than us, they probably have the same intelligence and social skills like humans, but our healing power is nothing compared to theirs. Is is no the first time that the researchers goes in to find such things. Some time before, Zasloff found the natural antibiotics that frogs used in their skin. He also talked about a cancer treatment found in the dogfish shark.
These bottlenose dolphins show several remarkable abilities that work together in order to make them heal faster. First of all, dolphins do not bleed to death. They may lose a lot of blood, but they most definitely will not bleed to death. It seems that they use their diving mechanism, which does not allow the blood go to unimportant parts of their bodies until the wound clots. The second thing is that dolphins do not show signs of infection when they are wounded. According to the group of researchers involved in this study, it seems that these little dolphins have some sort of compounds with antibacterial properties in their skin and that does not allow the wounds to get infected. Furthermore, dolphins do not even show pain reactions when they are wounded. If a normal animal would be totally affected by a wound, which would change not only its state of well-being, but also its eating habits and sleeping habits as well, dolphins do not seem to have this sort of problem. It seems that they continue eating and behaving normally even when they are deeply wounded.
Still, the most amazing thing about the bottlenose dolphins is their ability to heal quickly. It seems that they have some sort of special stem cells, similar to those of some amphibians that re-sprout limbs, which helps the dolphins heal and close their wounds really quickly. According to the researchers, it is vital to understand the blubber-regenerating abilities of the dolphins and how that could help in finding ways to help humans. Zasloff seems to think that given that dolphins are very close to us from a structural point of view, they may provide us with some good information regarding this particular issue which has been giving head aches to researchers all over the world. Furthermore, Zasloff also talks about some other proteins the bottlenose dolphins are known to produce which can be used in treating humans. Given that dolphins create their own pain-relieving compound, there is a very good chance for humans to try it and not get addicted, as we all do with the pain relievers that are already on the market.
Anyway, the thing is that dolphins are miraculous creatures and further studies must be made in order to clearly determine how they could help humans when it comes to health issues.
