Chelsea Hunt Palermo's Pastore
Pastore to join Chelsea
Italian club Palermo have declared that Chelsea lead the race for playmaker Javier Pastore who have become the main favorites for the 50 million-euro 21-year-old. Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are also in course for the transfer, but neither of the two sides have contacted the Italians yet.
The Argentine has joined Palermo in 2009 and managed to score 14 goals in 69 appearances. In addition to that, Pastore has also become one of the key players in Sicily thanks to his Kaka skills and balanced play. The youngster is one of the most used midfielders at Palermo for whom he scored 11 goals only this term. Overall, Pastore gathered 35 selections this term and had 99 shots and five assists. He is also the best scorer in Palmero neither Fabrizio Miccoli, nor Mauricio Pinilla could overcame his performance, the two finishing the season with nine and eight goals respectively.
The playmaker is also the third best assister of the side as only Josip Ilicic and Federico Balzaretti managed to deliver two more assists than the Argentine. Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has declared that Chelsea and the two Spanish rivals remain the only candidates for player’s services. “Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona want Pastore. I told his agent to see what market there is for the player and he has probably spoken to some clubs. At the end of the week we will meet to shed a bit of light on the future of the player.”
Palermo finished the season eighth in the standings but will play in the next term’s Europa League competition after they succeeded to reach the Italian Cup final. If Chelsea bring the player on Stamford Birdge he will thus become the first big name to arrive on Stamford Bridge as no other move has been set by the Blues yet. Wesley Sneijder is believed thoguh to have been linked by the West-Londoners, but both the Italian club and Julio Cesar revealed the Dutch is likely to remain on Giuseppe Meazza, his current contract expiring in 2014.
Michael Essien is likely to stay at Stamford Bridge, according to his manager Fabien Piveteau who has revealed that the Ghanaian is not considering any move abroad, though Jose Mournho still wants to bring him on Bernabeu. The 28-year-old has has gathered 149 selections with the blues and has scored 17 goals in six seasons.
As for Real Madrid, the Spaniards have already made three big changes. Jose Mourinho brought Nuri Sahin, Hamit Altintop and Jose Callejon. Sahin won the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund, while Altintop is finalist of the 2010 UEFA Champions League. Finally, Callejon decided to return on Bernabeu after spending three seasons with the Catalans Espanyol.
As for Barcelona, the Spaniards haven’t bought any big name yet, though they are still expecting their former player Cesc Fabregas to make the move on Camp Nou from Arsenal. The Spanish midfielder, who hasn’t won too many big trophies with the Gunners has declared he is happy on Emirates so there is no way he will join the Catalans this summer.
