Finally, she stunned Brianti in nearly one hour to make the progress on Barcelona clay.
Her next opponent, Lucie Hradecka, eased past Estrella Cabeza 6-4, 6-4 to set a second meeting with the Italian. Errani leads the head to head series 1-0, having defeated the Czech at the 2010 Fed Cup. Hradecka managed to come from 0-4 down in the second set to knock to Spaniard with a six-game consecutive run.
On the first half of the table, Virginie Razzano is to face Roberta Vinci for a spot into the last four round. The French edged Madgalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 7-6, 1-6, 6-2, while Vinci eased past Yaroslava Shvedova 6-1, 6-4.
Finally, Polona Hercog and Laura Pous will fight for the last spot into the semis. Crowd favorite Pous ousted Jill Craybas in two sets, 6-1, 6-1, while her next opponent eliminated Mairjana Lucic of Croatia 6-1, 6-2. The two are expected to meet for the second time, Pous having defeated the world No. 70 at this year’s Marbella event.
Nicuelscu reaches Estoril semi finals
Romania’s great-shaped Monica Niculescu has impressed at the Portuguese event with a three-set win over Jarmila Gajdosova whom she defeated 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Niculescu, who is chasing her first title of the season, will next play Anabel Medina of Spain who also reached the best four thanks to a 6-3, 7-5 win over Klara Zakopalova. World No. 59 will face the 61st-ranked Medina for the second time in career. The Spaniard has defeated the 23-year-old at the 2008 Dubai event.
Concerning the first half of the table, Johanna Larsson passed Alla Kudryavtseva in two sets, 6-2, 7-5, becoming one of the biggest surprises of the Portuguese tournament. The Swede will next meet Kristina Barrois of Germany who eased past the main favorite Alisa Kleybanova 6-4, 6-2.
Said delighted Larsson: “I’ve always loved playing on clay. My best results have always come on hardcourt but now it’s changing a little bit. It doesn’t really matter to me what surface the results are coming on though – I’m just happy they are coming!”
The 22-year-old Larsson will play the German for the second time in career. World No. 80 beat Barrois at the 2006 Stockholm tournament.
